Why Terrain at Styers is the Right Venue For You

Looking for a Philadelphia wedding venue? Look no further than Terrain at Styers. I’m starting a new series of blog posts here devoted to some of my favorite Philadelphia wedding venues. I get questions all the time from potential brides asking about venues and recommendations so I thought a little blog post dedicated to specific venues might be a helpful exercise in determining whether or not the venue might be a good fit.

First off, full disclaimer: Terrain at Styers might be one of my favorite Philadelphia wedding venues, and I actually have it listed in a separate article as one of my Top 5 Wedding Venues in Philadelphia, so there will be a lot of positives on this list. As you might expect, I love to evaluate venues based on the photography opportunities (naturally!!) so let’s take a look at some of the pros.

Terrain at Styers is one of those venues where every detail is meticulously thought out. Terrain is owned by Anthropologie (and I think Urban Outfitters??) and every nook in this place is styled on brand. Many brides start out the day in the Mushroom House, which has a ton of potential for great shots.

I’ve done many weddings where the guys get ready in a room called the “Hot House”, which is the next room over from where many of the receptions are held. This room is indoors, and also makes for an awesome back-up ceremony location if there is poor weather on the wedding day.

I can remember doing a wedding a few years back where we had the most torrential downpour during the ceremony I can ever remember, and it was totally fine because we held the ceremony in the Hot House. It is sort of a quasi greenhouse, so the roof is translucent and always gets really great light (and still has AC!)

Moving on to the ceremony location, Terrain at Styers has a beautiful bohemian alter set up under the shade of some enormous sycamore trees. I always love this location because it is backlit, and the dappled shade provides some awesome light for ceremony and family photos (almost as if it were planned that way- I’m telling you they have thought of everything).

After the ceremony, Terrain at Styers has a beautiful outdoor cocktail hour, where they have a cozy bonfire along with absolutely killer food. This is almost always my favorite time of the wedding- relaxed atmosphere, beautiful light, and lots of great photos.

Finally, this reception space has to be one of the most unique of all Philadelphia wedding venues. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves, but every event that I have shot here has always been incredible.

If Terrain at Styers is on your list of potential venues, then go check them out! They have a cafe on the campus which is a great option for lunch or dinner (although make a reservation first- almost every time I’ve tried to get in by just showing up it has been fully booked!) or check out their shop for home decor/plants. Liz and I like to go sometimes just to check out some of the items for our garden or kitchen.

If you have questions about shooting at Terrain at Styers, or would like to see more blog posts on Philadelphia wedding venues, leave a comment on the blog! I always love to hear from you!
