Philadelphia Wedding Photographer | Matt Genders Photography

My story…

Thanks so much for visiting! My name is Matt Genders, and  I am a wedding photographer in Philadelphia. My photography is dedicated to crafting light-filled, fine art images to communicate your love story. I consistently strive to create beautiful, enduring images to last generations.

My passion for photography began early in college while I was pursuing a degree in cello performance. During that time, I always loved being able to document my friends and family, and was so excited to share the photos to anyone that would tolerate having the camera around. Eventually, I moved to Philadelphia after finishing up my degree and soon after got married to my beautiful wife Liz. During the process of wedding planning, I realized how incredible it was to have a job creating art at the highest level, while also documenting people on the most important day of their lives. I started to shadow a few different Philadelphia wedding photographers I had admired, and soon after started my business in the summer of 2015.

Since then, I have been published in the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Wedding Sparrow, The White Wren, Wedding Chicks, and the Knot among others, and have travelled all over the country from California to Maine documenting countless love stories.

When I am not taking pictures, I enjoy spending time with my wife Liz, putzing around my yard, and accumulating way too many cameras.

All the best,

A few things about me (in no particular order):

1.) I love Buffalo Bills football. (you can’t pick your team…)

2.) My favorite food in the whole world is tuna salad. I know it’s weird.

3.) Yes, I still love to play the cello, and love to work with other creatives. Cello remains one of my first loves, so I’m still practicing and trying to get better! Check out my other site HERE for some cool images of musicians!

4.) I am English. While I was born in Buffalo, my parents emigrated here in the 80’s from England, and all my family still live abroad. One of my dreams is to shoot weddings in the UK. If you are looking at this and are in the UK, hit me up!

5.) I have an irrational love of coffee. Yes, I’m aware that everyone is “obsessed” with coffee, but judging by the amount of coffee accessories that are currently cluttering my countertop I think it’s time to come to terms with the fact that I may have a problem- and I’m ok with that.

6.) I LOVE Chinese food. Liz is half Chinese and ever since we met she has been introducing me to real Chinese food and culture. Some of our favorite meals are dumplings, stir-fry, and scallion pancakes.

Why choose Matt Genders Photography?

It’s a fair question- there are thousands of wedding photographers in the Philadelphia area. What makes me different?

I believe as a wedding photographer in Philadelphia, Matt Genders Photography is unique in three ways…

1.) Firstly, (and very importantly) I have experience. I have been a full time wedding photographer for 5 years, and have documented hundreds of wedding in the process, having been published in several nationwide outlets. I hold all of my photos to an extremely high standard, so every photo is crafted with the highest degree of professionalism. I want all of my photos to feel clean and have a timeless aesthetic (never “trendy”), so you can not only enjoy the photos today, but also still love them many years down the road.

2.) I take care of all my couples from the moment they book. For many people, wedding planning can be daunting. I have helped countless couples make some of the biggest decisions on their wedding day, from day-of timeline advice, to recommending other vendors. I am here as a resource to you, and all of my couples are in good hands throughout the entire planning process.

3.) I value relationships. As a husband and soon-to-be father, I know how important these photos are to you and your family, and take very seriously the trust you have placed in me to document life’s most important moments.
